A few years ago, the thought of having an autonomous floor clear in our households was still pretty much something out of science fiction.
And yet, here we are.
Although robot vacuum cleaners were available back then, they still very much, for the lack of a better word, sucked – and not in a good way. Thankfully, advances in technology have enabled manufacturers to create models that are considered great by today’s standards.
However, not all robot vacuums are created equal. So before you go to the nearest hardware or home improvement store to pick your very own automaton helper, we suggest that you check out our list of the best robovacs that you can buy in the market.
Is it Worth Getting a Robot Vacuum?
Before you go and buy an autonomous cleaner, you should find out if owning one is right for your home. Below are some of the benefits to consider:
1. Ease of Use
The most obvious benefit of owning a vacuum robot is that it’s very easy to use. Basically, the product will simply run by itself after it has been programmed. All you need to do is set it to work for a given space and time, and you’re good to go.
Many models, nowadays, are capable of regulating themselves and nearly foolproof. Thus, there’s little to no room for error during operation. You don’t have to worry about the vacuum getting stuck in some corner.
2. Time Saver
Many homeowners want their floors cleaned but can’t seem to find the time to get the vacuum cleaner going. If this sounds like you, then an autonomous cleaner might just be for you.
With a robot cleaner, you don’t even have to be present when the machine is doing its thing. You can simply activate the unit before you leave the house and the cleaner will do all the work as you take care of your business.
It saves you a lot of time which you could otherwise spend working, relaxing, spending time with your family, or whatever it is that you wish to do.
3. High Efficiency
Modern robot vacuums can handle multiple tasks.
They do not just clean the space, they are also capable of remembering the layout of the space, dumping the collected dirt, and then find their way back to the charging station.
Some advanced units feature sensors that can detect whether they are working on bare floors or carpeted surfaces, and can switch automatically as needed. There are even models that you can control via a smartphone app.
The motion of an autonomous cleaner is also designed to make sure that every inch of your space is cleaned. They can also efficiently go under furniture and around corners.
4. Clean All Levels of Dirt
Autonomous vacuums are also capable of handling all types of dirt.
From dust that has newly settled to the deeply-embedded debris in your carpet, these state-of-the-art vacuums are well-equipped to get the job done. The higher-end models have powerful suction capabilities, despite their seemingly small size.
Using the sensors, the vacuums can determine the amount of cleaning required for an area, and will repeatedly go over the space until it’s clean.

There is a notion that you have to spend big bucks just to be an autonomous vacuum – the eufy RoboVac 11 certainly changes that.
The RoboVac 11 is one of the quietest models that we have tested. It’s small, compact size is just enough to clean under the furniture in your home or any other places that can’t be reached with an upright vacuum. The RoboVac 11 does a great job of busting dust and just as well as high-end models that cost twice as much.
There’s also another version, the RoboVac 11s that features BoostIQ which increases the suction power in just 1.5 seconds when extra vacuuming strength is needed. Cleaning out the dust bin is also very quick and straightforward.
It doesn’t have advanced features like voice activation or smartphone integration but it’s definitely one of the best entry-level robot vacuums out there.

If money is not an issue and you want a premium robot cleaner, the iRobot Roomba 960 is worth checking out.
As you might expect, the Roomba 960 is packed with advanced features. During our tests, the 960 has managed to impress us by deftly maneuvering around furniture and obstacles – thanks to its built-in camera. The 960 also did an above average performance when cleaning across different floor types.
It also works with Amazon’s Alexa, surprisingly well I might add. I told Alexa to dock the cleaner and it made a beeline straight to the charging station. The 960’s performance pretty much warrants its price, and it’s a lot quieter than your standard stick vacuum.
The iRobot Roomba 960 comes highly recommended if you want advanced features with your autonomous helper.

The iLife V5s Pro stands out because not only can it vacuum but it can sweep and damp mop as well.
This robot cleaner is specially designed for hard floors such as marble, hardwood, tile, and laminate. If there’s dampness in the floor, the V5s Pro can mop it dry which is nothing short of impressive. Deep-seated dirt and grime stand no chance to the V5s Pro’s powerful motor. It can pick up fur, dust, debris, and dirt quite easily.
There are four cleaning modes that should meet most of your cleaning needs. The large roadrover wheels with self-rescue technology allow the unit to move freely even with uneven flooring. The mopping performance is not the best but the vacuuming performance is good.
It has some quirks with getting the cleaner to work but once it does, it’s definitely worth the investment.

- D-shape design, large core brush, and side brush finds pet hair and debris where they hide - in corners and along walls.

The Neato Botvac D5 is a high-performance and methodical robot cleaner with a few downsides.
The D5 is a breeze to set up, just plug it on the docking station and set it to charge. Meanwhile, you can download the Neato app and follow the steps on how to pair. The app gives you the option to name your robot worker. You may also use the app to start, stop, or pause the cleaning. There are also various features like setting a schedule, running a spot cleaning session, or setting it to gentle navigation mode.
You may also control the cleaner via Alexa voice command but not through the mobile app. There’s also the lack of button that will send the unit to stop cleaning and go back home. These inconsistencies can be rather annoying or even a deal-breaker for many people.
Overall, the D5 is an impressive autonomous cleaner with a few noteworthy quirks.

The Ecovacs Deebot N79S is another great entry-level option for the budget conscious.
If you want to get the most out of the Deebot N79S, you will need to sync the machine with an iOS or Android device through the Ecovacs app. You just have to enter your home’s Wi-Fi password and manually connect to the cleaner’s Wi-Fi, then the application will just take care of the rest.
The N79S is a surprisingly powerful cleaner. During our tests, the unit was able to easily clean up crumbs, hair, and dust from the floor. It’s even capable of picking up larger objects that other models would have a problem with. The unit also displayed good performance when it comes to maneuvering around household obstacles. It’s not the quietest cleaner but the noise is not too bad.
The app integration has a lot of room for improvement but it’s a tough, high-performance vacuum that won’t break the bank.

SharkNinja is a company that is known for their excellent traditional vacuum cleaners and the Shark Ion Robot 750 is no exception.
One of the best things about the 750 is the companion mobile app for the vacuum. The Shark Ion Robot app is very easy to use and you can quickly start a cleaning job just from the main menu of the app. You can also check the app for information like the battery life and whether the cleaner is charging. From the app, you can also set cleaning schedules and view the cleaning history.
In terms of performance, the Shark Ion Robot 750 does a great job of avoiding obstacles. It can go around shoes, cables, and even pieces of clothing in the floor. It can also pick up chunky messes like cereal on many different types of flooring like carpet or wood. However, did display some inefficiencies when picking up smaller particles like dust or pet hair.
Overall, the 750 is a good effort from Shark especially with regards to its maneuvering ability and the companion app.

There’s a reason why that the iRobot’s Roomba line is pretty much synonymous with robot vacuums. While the high-end Roombas are impressive, it’s hard to discount the company’s entry-level models like the iRobot Roomba 640.
Setting up the Roomba 640 is a walk in the park. All you have to do is plug it in the charging dock, stick the robot to the dock and let it charge for about three hours. While you’re at it, you can download the iRobot app which is also very easy to use. On the main screen, there is only one button “Clean.” Doesn’t get any simpler than that. If you have an Amazon Echo device at home, you can tell Alexa to start up the robot.
During our tests, the suction power of the 640 has managed to impress. After about 70 minutes of cleaning, it was satisfying to find that the dust bin is filled to the brim. Unfortunately, the unit did have some trouble navigating around different surfaces like a rug.
If you are looking for a Wi-Fi capable robot cleaner for a great price, this is a good unit to consider.
And that concludes our list of the best robot vacuum that you can buy for a hands-free cleaner house. As you can see, autonomous vacuum cleaners are quite the investment, so choose one that best fits your needs.
