Bissell Zing: A Review of Its Specifications and Features

bissell zing

Before you even get into reading this review, you’re going to want to know if you prefer canister vacuums or upright vacuums. Uprights tend to be a little more unwieldy when it comes to maneuvering while canister vacuums give you extra reach while you clean.

If you like canister vacuums, then the Bissell Zing is an excellent product for you to consider. It doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, and it does clean a variety of different surfaces.

Additionally, it’s lightweight for its size and style, making it highly portable when you’re moving around your house, up the stairs, and under furniture.

To help you decide whether or not this is the best vacuum for you, we’re going to provide you with a complete and unbiased review of the Bissell Zing to get you on your way.

What is the Bissell Zing?

There is a three-stage filtration process within this canister vacuum which means that the air and dirt will go through a total of three different filters before passing through. The filters are also washable, so you don’t have to worry about future replacement costs.

Additionally, this particular vacuum is bagless, so you will need to empty the dirt caddy on a regular basis, but you won’t have to replace any bags. That’s more money in your wallet over a longer period of time.

If you prefer a bagged canister vacuum, the Bissell Zing is available in that model, too.

You will need to replace bags every so often, but at least you’ll know when it’s time by way of the full bag indicator light.

Another perk of this system is the automatic cord rewind. All you need to do is push a button, and the cord automatically rewinds into its holder. As much as it’s a pain to wind up a vacuum cord, this feature makes easy work of putting it all back together.

Depending on which version you prefer, bagged or bagless, you may or may not want to compare the various specifications that exist for each model. The bagged model weighs 8 lbs., while the bagless weighs 10 lbs., just as one example. You’d have to decide whether or not that extra two pounds makes a difference to you.

How it Compares

The Bissell Zing comes in two varieties – bagged as well as bagless. You’ll have to decide which one is better for you and your situation. Both are available for purchase from various outlets like Amazon.

This vacuum is one that you can use on a daily basis if you so chose because it is easy to maneuver. The convenient handle makes it more manageable to carry around as needed. It also comes with a nozzle meant to clean any surface or flooring.

The primary cleaning head can also lie flat allowing you to reach those hard to get places under your couch so you can get to those pesky dust bunnies.

On the primary brush head, you can choose to turn it on or leave it off depending on the surface you’re tackling at the moment.

Being able to leave it off is a wonderful option if you need to suck up smaller particles that would normally get flung under the vacuum. The brush head can be moved up or down, but it does not turn like a traditional brush roll.

You’ll also find a long extension wand that makes cleaning your ceiling fans incredibly convenient when you combine it with the correct accessory, namely the dusting brush.

The accessories, while minimal, are fantastic, too, as you’ll see a dusting brush and a crevice tool. The brush is perfect for cleaning out your blinds or exhaust vents, while the crevice tool is great for getting in between those couch cushions.

If you have more places to clean, you may consider purchasing an extra accessory kit that is compatible with the Bissell Zing because when it boils down to it, you’ll only end up with the two accessories in one – the combined dusting brush and crevice tool.

When it comes time to empty the caddy, it is relatively simple to clean it out with the touch of a button. It is not messy to empty the contents so long as you don’t do it over a full trash can. Your best bet would be to dispose of the contents in an almost empty trash bag to keep the dirt from being re-exposed to the air.

If you chose to purchase the bagged version, you might experience some difficulty in keeping the bag in place at first. Some customers have complained about this being an issue, but the result is the same – a vacuum that does a good job cleaning up.

Read and Understand the Warranty

The warranty is a one-year limited warranty that is very specific. According to the text, Bissell states that it “will repair or replace (with new, refurbished, lightly used, or remanufactured components or products) at BISSELL’s option, free of charge from the date of purchase by the original purchaser, for one year any defective or malfunctioning part.”

The warranty goes further to state that it only applies if the “product is used for persona, and not commercial or rental service.

This warranty does not apply to fans or routine maintenance components such as filters, bags, belts, or brushes. Damage or malfunction caused by negligence, abuse, neglect, unauthorized repair or any other use not in accordance with the User’s Guide is not covered.”

With that said, you want to be sure to know what date your vacuum was purchased in case you need to request service that should be considered under warranty.

Be sure to save your receipt in case it comes into question, or you forget to register it after purchasing. If you purchase it from a seller on a site like eBay, you may be well outside of the original purchase date, so keep that in mind, too.

To obtain warranty covered repairs, contact Bissell Consumer Care to find an authorized service center near you. You can contact them directly online, via phone, and by email.

Pros and Cons

There are plenty of pros and cons when you begin to consider the Bissell Zing as a viable option for your next vacuum.

  • Small
  • Lightweight
  • Low-profile
  • Long extension hose
  • Auto-rewind power cord
  • Bagged or bagless

  • No HEPA filtration
  • Short cord
  • Better on hard floors
  • A limited number of accessories
  • Bag replacements may be needed

Because the Bissell Zing is smaller and lightweight, it is easier to store than say an upright Kenmore Elite 31150. At the same time, it may not be as powerful when compared to vacuums that have stronger motors like those put out by manufacturers like Dyson or Shark.

You also have the option of choosing whether or not to purchase a bagged or bagless version of the Bissell Zing.

Being able to personalize the dirt capturing is pretty significant because you may prefer a bag over bagless system for several different reasons.

For one, a bagged system typically captures dirt better than a bagless system. This can be especially important if you have allergies. On the other hand, having a bagless system is better from a financial standpoint because you won’t have to replace bags on a regular basis.

The lack of HEPA filtration may actually cause issues for allergy sufferers, in which case this would be a vacuum to avoid if you do have allergies. Of course, finding true HEPA filtration on models in this price range is relatively difficult. You may discover HEPA-like filtration, but it won’t do as good a job for allergens like pollen or mold that are smaller than 0.5 microns.

The Final Verdict

The price of the Bissell Zing seems to correspond well to the small stature of the vacuum. It is a vacuum for the budget-minded, so keep in mind that you can’t necessarily expect top performance.

It will get the job done relatively well, but it may not work precisely the way you hope on the surface you choose.

Remember, high-pile carpeting is not a friend to this vacuum, but low-pile and hard flooring work quite well with this vacuum’s capabilities.

Assuming that you’ve decided that a canister vacuum is the type of vacuum you want, the Bissell Zing is a great option. Beyond this review, make sure you do your research and read other reports to figure out what you want to purchase.
